Open Enrollment (Non-Resident Options)

Open Enrollment

If you reside outside of the Eau Claire Area School District, but wish for your child to attend an ECASD school for the 2022-23 school year, you must complete an open enrollment application. The open enrollment application period for the 2022-23 school year is February 7 - April 29, 2022 at 4:00pm. The application can be found and submitted online through the  Department of Public Instruction Open Enrollment website. The regular open enrollment application is now closed for the 2022-2023 school year, however parents can still apply for open enrollment during the alternative open enrollment period.

Alternative Open Enrollment

Parents normally apply for open enrollment for the following school year during a three-month application period which begins in February and ends on the last weekday in April. However, 2011 Act 114 established a procedure by which parents may apply for open enrollment outside of the regular application period.  You can find more information on the process, including the application form, at Open Enrollment Alternative Application. You can use this form and submit it to the Administration Department if you would like your student to open enroll during the current 2022-2023 school year. The alternative open enrollment period for the 2022-2023 school year starts on July 1, 2022.

Part-time Open Enrollment

Beginning in the 2018-19 school year, a pupil enrolled in a public school in the high school grades may attend public school in a nonresident school district for the purpose of taking a course offered by the nonresident school district.  A pupil may attend no more than 2 courses at any time in nonresident school districts.  Wis. Stat. 118.52
The Part-time Open Enrollment application and informational brochure can be found on DPI’s new Part-time Open Enrollment webpage.
