Amusement Park Physics Final Exam Project

The physics final exam project applies all of the physics concepts that have been covered in the past year in a real life application: Amusement Park Physics.  Students may be assigned the task of designing a roller coaster and analyzing how the roller coaster would function in reality by determining forces, accelerations, velocities, energy types, and frictional forces at various points.  Students may also choose to analyze a real life roller coaster by going on a trip to an amusement park.  Students who go on the field trip will time the ride, find the height of the ride at various points through triangulation and barometric readings,  and find the accelerations at various point throughout the ride using a lab quest.  The students then bring this data back and analyze the ride and find the forces, velocities, frictional forces, and energy types at specific points along the ride. Students have the option of choosing either option to complete this project.
