Mandala Evaluation
This document should be turned in with the completed Mandala project. In small font you will see the art standard being addressed. The larger bold font explains what I will be looking for to see if students are meeting art standards.

Value Practice Worksheet
Value is a fancy art term for shading. Adding value to an object changes the object from a 2-D shape to a 3-D form. Students use this worksheet as a practice exercises to understanding value as well as the possibilities and limitations of colored pencil.

Mandala Theme Activity
This is an example of the theme activity I do to help students choose a suitable theme for their Mandala. Directions: 1. Fold a piece of copy paper into 8 equal sections. 2. Write a personal interest at the top of each box (red on the example). 3. Brainstorm a list of objects/images that could relate to each theme (blue on the example). 4. Have another person circle ideas that are creative and unexpected (green on the example). 5. Rank your ideas- 1 being your best idea. 6. Flip the sheet over and begin sketching the images you listed for your best theme idea. If there are images you find difficult to draw, I suggest finding internet images (MUST BE CITED) or images from a magazine. Looking at a visual referance helps you draw more accurately.

Citing Images from the Internet
Drawing from a picture is far easier than drawing from memory. I encourage students to find and print visual referances. If students are printing internet images they MUST cite them. I will not allow students to draw from images that have not been cited. This document contains directions for properly citing internet images.
