Mythology and Modern Connection

The purpose of this unit is to supplement the curricula of English 11 with social and urban studies at the secondary level. Students will study Greek, Roman, and other world mythology while discussing its influence in contemporary society. The content of the mythology will proved insight to problems, issues, history, and society. Furthermore, students will connect mythology to its modern adaptations, create a myth, and study the organization of the "Hero's Journey".
Readings and viewings for this unit will include the following: Greek and Roman mythology, World mythology, Urban Legends, "Star Wars Odyssey", Clash of the Gods, Homer's The Odyssey.
