AP Language and Composition Quarter Four:

AP Testing and Symbolism in Literature

The AP Testing and Coming of Age unit is focused on preparing students for the AP exam which occurs the second week of May and thematic unit based on young adult fiction. Students will review the three types of essays as well as practice multiple choice examples in order to prepare for the AP exam. After the exam students will read a student selected novel and identify the symbolism. Students will also read a common class text and identify archetypes and symbolism. Students will then do a book discussion and presentation on their novel selection.

Formative Assessments for this unit: Practice essays, practice multiple choice quizzes, reading comprehension quizzes, class activities and discussions

Summative Assessments for this unit: AP Exam, book choice essay, Book discussion and presentation

Unit Objective: Students will be able to recognize, understand and responsd to the three types of AP essay prompts. Students will be able to recognize, understand and respond to AP multiple choice questions. Students will be able to read and comprehend a young adult fiction text. Studetns will be able to discuss the "Coming of Age" theme in context of various text examples.
