Faculty / True Vang: Physical Education Teacher/About Me

About Mr. Vang

Nyob zoo ("hello" in Hmong) my name is True Vang and I am Hmong. I was born in the mountains of a small province in Laos, a Southeast Asian Country. Our family had to leave our home to seek shelter in a refugee camp as a result of the Vietnam War. Like many other families in that camp we were able to re-settle in the United States as a result of the Refugee Act. I was only 5 years old when my family moved to the United States.

My very first school was right here in Eau Claire Wisconsin. I attended Randall Elementary as a kindergartner back in 1986-87. Then we moved to the Longfellow Elementary School area half way through the school year. After my first year attending the Eau Claire Area School District my family moved to Pennsylvania to be closer to family. I grew up through the public school system in Pennsylvania in a district called Conestoga Valley until 1999. Our family decided to move back to Wisconsin during my senior year where I graduated from Memorial High School in the year 2000.
