The Governance Board is the group that is responsible for overseeing the operation of the Chippewa Valley Montessori Charter School (“CVMCS”). For example, the Governance Board:

  • Makes and implements policies
  • Approves all hires
  • Oversees expenditures
  • Monitors contracts
  • Establishes a budget for the school
  • Provides feedback to the district regarding performance of the principal

Governance Board members meet monthly, typically on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the CVMCS library. Board meetings are “public meetings”, so anyone can attend. Members are also required to participate on committees of the Governance Board, and committee work may be ongoing throughout the month.

The Governance Board is made up of CVMCS teachers, parent representatives, community volunteers, the principal, and a member of the local school board.

While other Governance Board members are appointed or elected by the current board members, Parent Representatives on the board are elected by CVMCS families. Each year, any current or former CVMCS parent may run for a Parent Representative position, and the parent receiving the most votes from current parents becomes a member of the Governance Board. Parent Representatives serve for a three-year term.
