Start College Now allows high school students to earn post-secondary credits at colleges. Start College Now is available to students in grades 11-12 in the fall and spring semesters. This program develops a college transcript for high school students. Once students are enrolled in this program, they work solely with the college.
Please keep the following state requirements in mind regarding these programs.
- The District will only approve payment for courses that are not comparable to ECASD courses, as determined by ECASD. If a course is approved, ECASD will pay for tuition, fees, and textbooks.
- Approved courses may only be used to meet ECASD elective graduation requirements.
- If a student does not receive a passing grade for the course, or withdraws or drops the course after a date which results in a financial charge, the family will assume responsibility for reimbursing the District for the total cost of the course's tuition, fees, and textbooks.
- Students may earn up to 18 post-secondary credits TOTAL between the Start College Now and Early College Credit programs during their high school careers. Each post-secondary credit will earn the student ¼ ECASD credit.
- Applications will not be accepted after the due date, and they must be submitted to their counselor.
- There is no guarantee that a student will be able to enroll in the post-secondary course after it is approved by ECASD. The most common reason for a student not being able to take a course after ECASD approval is that the post-secondary institution does not have space in a class. If a student is not able to be admitted to a class for this reason their application may not be amended.
- If a student or family chooses to enroll in a course that is comparable to what is currently offered within the District, the student/family shall assume the cost for the course taken at the technical college or university, and the District will not accept the course for high school credit.
