Faculty / Band 8/Solo Project Overview

South Eighth Grade BAND Solo Project

Solo Project Goal:  students to understand the steps that go into the preparation of a solo, and then use this preparation to achieve a good performance.  It is crucial that students understand that preparation is a step by step process and assignments must be completed by the due dates.

SOLO FEST: Saturday March 7 at South Middle School

1.      Attendance at SOLO FEST:  Students must give the band director a written excuse from parents two weeks or earlier and complete make-up work in order to be excused from SOLO FEST.  Make-up SOLO FEST judge will be at South after school on Tuesday, March 3 for anyone excused from SOLO FEST.
2. Once the due date has passed, the highest grade that will be given will be a C.  Evaluations will not occur past Saturday, March 7. If there are special circumstances due to sickness or excused absences, please see your teacher.
3. Students will NOT perform any of the tests or performances with the accompaniment.  Solos are NOT memorized.   Use your music and have measures numbered for the judge.  Dress up for the Solo Fest (no jeans, t-shirts or sweatshirts).
4. Every student will be offered help during class.  You are encouraged to seek help before school, during resource or after school.  Please make an appointment to do this.
 5. Students can take the first half and/or the second half solo test before the due date outside of class.  This must be set up with your music teacher ahead of time.
 6. Stay on schedule, don’t get behind, ask questions, seek out extra help but NO EXCUSES! Effort and beautiful music.
