Students at DeLong are serviced by GT in a variety of ways. Most gifted students have their needs met in a regular classroom through differentiation by their classroom teacher. Some students have been identified for special classes such as Super Challenge Math or accelerated science. In addition to special classes, students may be assigned mentors for writing or work with the resource teacher in special groups for reading, math, social studies, or other areas. Some students are serviced because they have been identified and we are programming to meet their specific needs. Other students are serviced because we are in a process of identification. Identification is an on-going process and students may be recommended for the program at any grade level and at any time during the school year. The goal of identification is to recognize students with unusual talents and abilities for the purpose of including them in programs that will meet their unique educational needs. Multiple identification measures will be used in each of the categories of Standard (t). For more information on identification and programming, check the link to the Eau Claire Gifted Department.
