Montessori is a fast growing, popular educational method across the country and has been established for years in many parts of our globe. It all began in 1912 with Dr. Maria Montessori, who believed in the innate, inborn, desire of all children to learn. Beautiful classrooms, engaging materials, and well prepared learning environments developed. Montessori focuses on the whole child: the academic, social, emotional, physical, and moral needs are nurtured. The student’s education is responsive to each child’s potential.
At the Chippewa Valley Montessori Charter School, students work at their own pace, alone or in groups, during long blocks of work time. Children are allowed to pursue their innate desire to learn, developing concentration, self-discipline, and self-esteem. Teachers guide students in a peaceful and engaging atmosphere, carefully observing each child’s progress and introducing new lessons as appropriate. Montessori materials are multi-sensory, sequential, and self-correcting. Children use these materials independently, repeatedly, and with deep concentration. They emerge from this spontaneous activity renewed and with a profound sense of inner satisfaction.

Classrooms are divided into three groups: Children’s House: Kindergarten & Pre-Kindergarten, ages 4 and 5 Elementary I: grades 1 to 3, ages 6 - 8 Elementary II: grades 4 and 5, ages 9 - 11 These family-like groupings encourage more experienced children to share what they have learned, while reinforcing their own learning.
